Just like in real life, people underestimate how fucking cool bugs are. If you just take a little time to learn about them, they go from "creepy" to "fascinating" in a matter of seconds. Admittedly, I used to be pretty grossed out by house centipedes (aka "angry feathers"), but then I did a little research on them and found out that they live for seven years, and don't reach sexual maturity until their third year. They also can't actually bite humans. Suddenly I couldn't look at them without thinking how old they were and "thanks for killing all the mites and other, shittier bugs in my house".
People are like that with Bug Pokemon, too. They can't divorce the crawliness that they perceive real bugs to have from the Bug Type, and so they miss out on how fucking awesome as shit Scolipede is. They think six legs are too much for any one body to have, so they don't see how fluffy and adorable moths, and by extension, moth Pokemon, are.
Anyone who doesn't like bugs or the Bug Type is just an ignorant pleb is what I'm saying.
