Mega Houndoom/Mawile/Medicham/Manectric/Absol/Lucario/Abomasnow/Camerupt/Sableye/Altaria/Glalie/Lopunny/Audino could have been regular evolutions with a little tweaking.

I think Mega Blaziken, Swampert, Camerupt and Lopunny have the nicest designs.

Mega Blastoise, Aerodactyl, Scizor, Heracross and Lati@s have the worst designs.

Blissey is not that different from Chansey. It's an even less drastic change than Audino -> Mega Audino. And Ambipom looks as different from Aipom as Mega Mawile from Mawile.

I'm with you, bro-perior. It's honestly one of my favourite pokemon, and I love the color scheme which seems to be most people's beef with it.

Conversely, I really dislike it's prevos. I see them as the standard for wonky gen 1 designs.

Finally a chance to dump this copypasta

Pokemon is well known for the pokemon themselves going through metamorphosis which has been called “evolution.”
Rhydon and its family centers around the traditional concept of evolution, fitting for the very first pokemon designed.
Rhyhorn evokes something primal and animalistic with it being a mix of a rhinos and a dinosaur, alongside with its small brain that only thinks of charging at something.
Rhydon losing its armor plates and becoming bipedal makes it looks sapient, especially when its head becomes rounder and the angular ridges of its skull reduced down to ears. The small protrusions on the side of its face and ridge of spikes going down its back is a reminder of how feral a pokemon it was as a Rhyhorn.
Seeking to evolve further, it relies on not itself to change, but to utilize technology to bring about that change. Rhyperior covers over what was left of those spiky plates and ridges it had as a Rhyhorn with synthetic armor. The armor itself resembles things humans would wear, like vests and earmuffs. Instead of chasing down its opponent, it relies on shooting projectiles instead, using a weapon that has become part of its body.
Despite all of these augmentations to how it defends itself and how it attacks, in an ironic twist, still relates to its old, primitive self as well as keeping an earthly appearance: the synthetic armor that makes it look human and covers nearly everything that could identify it as a rhino/dinosaur, sans its face, looks like it is made out of rocks. The elbow blades/Big O pistons look like stalagmites. Maintaining balance for standing on two legs as well and having cannons for arms developed a tail with a boulder for a club. What seemed alienating at first only emphasized further the typing of THE original pokemon, and what it stood up for.

You guys realize that there is only about 5 good megas or so at any point in time since you can only use 1 on a team. The rest go into the trash. It is a simple opportunity cost problem. Muh mega does not fix every pokemon.

There are 5 megas so far that have been banned from OU and then there are more in OU right now. And megas made shitmon like Pinsir and Mawile usable and rose Beedrill and Pidgeot from the absolute garbage to at least being usable in UU.

Gen 1 did not have a lot of great designs. Magmar, Rhydon, and Electabuzz were some of the better designs.
