I hated all 3 equally when I first saw them, I hated both Braixen and Quilladin when I saw them and was indifferent to Frogadier and the same happened with their final evolutions I hated Chesnaught and Delphox and was indifferent to Greninja and for the most part that still applies but Froakie did grow on me for the 10 minutes I had it in my party before it evolved.

The thing is people will "suddenly" gain a huge love for any pokemon if its strong competitively.

I'm certain if a pokemon that was literally a turd came out and it had stats, moves, and ability to dominate competitive, people would go ape shit about how they "love its design" and "appreciate it for more than just its viability".
