Early-game Kanto is about as tough as Pokemon can get with the great level design in blocking off the entrance for Mt Moon after you get to Cerulean City, so if you only have shitmons it's gg.

Except you can get Oddish no problem.

As far as I'm concerned, Misty is what makes Bulbasaur the best starter. I kind of wish it knew a psychic move in FR/LG to make it harder.

Well, being STAB super effective on Brock, Misty, and Giovanni, and resisting Surge and Erika, and being immune to poison kind of makes it the OP starter.

Nothing beats Swampert in RSE though. That shit can take you the entire game solo with zero problems.

Why didnt more gym leaders use x-items? Not even gen 1 I mean later down the road too. Misty's fight was fun to prepare for because of stuff like that.

In Blue, Misty's Starmie was the hardest part of the game for me.
In Gold, Whitney's Miltank fucked me up good.
In Sapphire, for some goddamn reason, Tate and Liza took me a good 3 or 4 tries.

I can honestly say I've never had any problems since then.

because they have synergy. iirc all of them are either flying or levitating and they have a powerful (stab in claydol's case) earthquake, as well as i believe the solrock and lunatone had rock slide? so yeah, they were pretty strong.

The only other pokemon that can even be considered not easy is maybe Fantina's Mismagius in platinum

In Fire Red,Misty was easy but it was probably because I had Ivysaur and Pikachu.
In Crystal Whitney's Milktank was a nightmare even with Machop.
In Emerald,I used Sceptile and Dusclops against Liza and Tate,with excellent results.
