The Orange League is a gimmick league. 4 Gyms, no Elite 4, just the Champion. And the Gyms have silly challenges like racing and building sleds.

So far, Ash is the only character to have seen EVERY Pokemon ever so far, and is in the process of seeing all the Kalos exclusive species. He has met every legendary pokemon at least three times.

The only person who comes close to this is Red from Origins, but he hasn't even seen a Gen 2 pokemon.

People complain about
"Oh, Ash doesn't catch them all!" or "ASH NEVER EVOLVES HIS POKEMON!"
Can you imagine the cluster fuck of Ash going to the Pokemon center every time he wanted to change his party? We already spend enough time away from gym battles as possible in the anime. And remember the first few times Ash evolved his pokemon? Charizard wouldn't listen. Butterfree was released. Primeape was given away. Muk he barely ever used. He has trauma from Charizard still. Plus, the fact the evolved forms aren't so kid friendly. Compare merchandise of Squirtle to merchandise of Wartortle.

And some of his Pokemon just outright refused to Evolve.

Because training actual monsters would be a lot harder than pressing buttons in a turn based video game. Ash has accomplished a fucking lot for a 10-12 year old.
