The first time I beat the league on Red my team consisted of a Charizard and a Raticate that were way overleveled, and then four shitmons that never saw battle but that I had for cut/surf/strenght

I actually found a challenge in the E4, even when Mega-Latias barely survived a Giga Impact and KO'd Steven's Metagross the next few turns.
Sceptile and Camerupt became massive bros, too.

I wasn't an expert team builder my first time around, either.

My first E4 victory in Blue was my starting Blastoise, a Magmar, and a bunch of Pokémon I rounded up in Victory Road. I won only by a thin hair that day, but GODDAMN was it a satisfying victory.

Those are all of my teams. I always tried to have the following pattern:
-GFW triangle
-Flyer
-Ground-type or something that that can use EQ
-Psychic or Ghost-type
-Electric-type or something that can use Thunder.

My only real rules I adhere by are to never reuse a Pokemon or nickname I figure with over 700 Pokemon I should be able to make a unique team each time rather than just rehash stuff I've used before.
