>>22956377I dislike both Fairy and Mega Evolution for the same two reasons:
>thematicallyFairy is probably the most vague typing, what the fuck is it supposed to represent. Having a type just for cute pokémon is stupid. It is also stupid if it's supposed to represent mythical beings, given that probably more than 1/3 of all pokémon could fit into that category. I dislike Mega Evolutions because of the "burst" thing that feels out of place to me. I like to think of pokémon quite like animals that progress as they age/train, having some special mode that they can turn into and then back afterwards just doesn't sit well with me. It fits more into the digimon universe.
>gameplay wiseBoth tried to fix the meta game in some way.
Fairy tried to nerf Dragon, which it did, although not that much. Besides that Fairy got the most broken type-matchups imaginable, adding Fairy to literally any pokémon will improve it. Give it some time until we have more Fairy types to chose from and it will be more broken than Dragon ever was.
I like to think that Mega Evolution was made to give old pokémon new life, and to give them some place to shine. However only giving you one Mega slot per team really doesn't do that, in fact it lessens varity as more pokémon have to compete for one slot. On the other hand it might be for the best since so many Megas are so extremely broken beyond reason. The metagame hasn't been this unstable since gen I.
