What are /vp/'s thoughts on this game?

I'm starting a new file soon, should feed my Gen 5 nostalgia and help me find Pokemon to use in Gen 6.

I want unique gym music back more than pokemon following you and trainer customization combined. Also the first game of Gen 7 had better fucking have Habitat List, DexNav, or some equivalent. I want to catch every new pokemon available on every route on my first playthrough without looking up guides that also spoil what the new pokemon ARE.

For me, it's:

1. HGSS
2. BW2
3. BW
4. Other Stuff

While BW2 didn't have the restrictions of Unova only Pokemon that made Black and White so damn interesting, it added a lot of fun side quests and had meaningful post-game content. Also, it was less linear (sort of) than Black and White and added the potential for hard mode if you had a friend with the Hard Key unlocked in Black 2. Truth be told it wasn't the biggest difficulty jump, but the principle of it is admirable.

Playing this game for the first time, and I'm really underwhelmed. Biggest complaint I have so far is that you have no fucking opportunity to really build your team in a meaningful way every rout from start to Nimbassa has nothing but shitmons the entire way. Where's another game that lets you have access to: Fighting, Steel, Water, Electric, Fire, and Poison WITHOUT EVEN COUNTING YOUR STARTER, all before the second gym? Plus, Lucario, Azumarill, Magnezone, Arcanine, and Weezing are all easily endgame material and BW2 ALSO gives you great mons like Krookodile, Chandelure, and Conkeldurr.

HGSS was fucking shit just like your taste for even comparing it anywhere near BW or BW2. The game was slow, tedious and had bad remixes of GSC. It changed absolutely nothing about the originals except new graphics and pokethalon which no one cares about. I really don't get why this game is put on a pedestal, it's the same boring region it always was.

You do know it still has Huge Power and physical Waterfall and Aqua Tail, right?

I'm sorry, I didn't realize a Fighting/Steel type pokemon with attack stats over 110 in both stats and moves to abuse both attack stats is "shitty". Remind me again what you get before the second gym in any game that's anywhere near as good as Lucario at endgame?
>Koffing/Weezing
Thing's tanky as FUCK and gets good coverage. Pure poison with Levitate is a great typing too.
>Growlithe
Base 70 in both attack stats is pretty damn good early on, and having access to a Fire type early without picking the fire starter is a damn luxury. Intimidate is gamebreakingly good versus a lot of fights, and Flash Fire isn't bad either. Once you get some of Growlithe's good moves like Flame Wheel you can evolve it into Arcanine who wrecks face.
>Magnezone
Yeah, gen 5 magnezone is one of the best pokemon in the entire game for in-game.

You can evolve Riolu into Lucario one level later. Just keep running back and forth until it gets to 220 happiness. Now you have a Pokemon that can be used as either a physical or special sweeper and wreck the game.

You do realise nostalgia doesn't count if a game is fairly recent, right? I was an adult when I played BW and B2W2 and I enjoyed them at the time. Nothing to do with nostalgia.

Not all nostalgia has to be childhood stuff. If you're 21-22 now and you've been playing since you were a kid, then you probably remember playing Black and White in your senior year of high school. For me, that was about the time in my life everyone around me stopped giving a shit if their peers liked "child" stuff, and there was a hell of a lot of DS-bringing happening at my high school. I've got a lot of good, NOSTALGIC memories attached to Black and White, and it doesn't matter that it was only a few years ago.

I actually gave gen5 a miss, I'm currently slowly playing through BW, should I continue or skip to BW2? So many people on here seem to say BW2 was the bast game before the series went to shit, but it sounds like I should beat BW first to truly experience it.

BW has arguably better story pacing. BW2 perfects the mechanics of sprite-based Pokemon games, but I'd strongly recommend playing BW1 first. Especially if you're capable of using "Memory Link".
Also, if you can use a code on BW2 or find a friend who can give you the Challenge Mode key. Challenge Mode BW2 is actually really good.
