There's quite a few bland designs, but the whole gen was fantastic in terms of world-building and making a relatively cohesive line-up.
The urban theme many of them ran with was really creative and fitting, seeing as how this was the gen that introduced the first large, booming city-scape. This is plainly seen with pokemon like the Timburr-line, and people hate on the Kling-line and Trubbish-line, but I thought they were great for selling the emphasis on the urban development. The Reuniclus-line and Cryogonal had a clinical, "science" theme that worked well with the main urban theme too.
Throh and Sawk were obviously emulating the original Hitmon-duo, but the classic dojo look they had reminded me of Saffron City's dojo (which was one of the bigger cities in Red/Blue).
The Krookodile and Scrafty lines, along with Simisage, were fun for that punk/thug look.
Sewaddle-line, Cinccino, Gothita-line, Bouffalant, and Swanna had a fun "fashion" theme going on.
Reshiram's tail was essentially flaming jet engine, and Zekrom had a generator: both very machine-like, and again serving as subtle nods to that modern look.
Even the Vanillite-line, being akin to ice cream or sundaes you could buy on the streets (which Castelia City also featured), and I'm probably reaching at this point but the Tympole-line sounding like fucking vibrating cellphones. Just a large part of the gen's roster was to create that modern, big-city look that was important to Black and White's identity compared to past versions. I appreciate that direction.
