All things considered, it's the best Pokemon game made to date, but it still suffers with the problems the original games had as well as introducing new problems it didn't have to cause.
Most notably the removal of customisation while still keeping all the models in the game which are displayed when battling an XY user. There was no excuse for this, although many will try to make them up.
The sheer lack of catchable Pokemon paid homage to how Hoenn was a relaunch of sorts for the series, new games on a new console. They wanted new Pokemon rather than old ones. But after the disaster that was for BW and the amazing variety of XY it felt like more like unwanted authenticity. It also feels like a large chunk of the uncatchables in ORAS are the new Gen 6 Pokemon, which while it makes a little in-game sense is a little dated and means players are forced to either use online features or buy a copy of XY, something I know some people couldn't do.
They also missed a great opportunity to finally release event-only Pokemon to everyone in the form of the Mirage Spots, but instead kept it limited to the usual catchable ones.
This not only helped promote genning and injecting, it also means that a small chunk of well designed and thought out Pokemon aren't usable in official tournaments, which also goes on to help promote unofficial rule sets like Smogon.
Not saying there's anything wrong with Genning, Injecting or Smogon, but it seems quite strange for a company to almost ACTIVELY 'inadvertently' encourage cheating or unofficial rule sets that grow so large that they shadow your official rules.
Welp... That became an essay.
Props to anyone who read the full thing.
