Red is a superboss. No one has any right to bitch about his difficulty. The shittiness of level scaling? Fair game.

By the time I added my Swinub to my team in HeartGold years ago I was at Blackthorn and I ran into him in the wild randomly. I had to grind him up before taking on the gym even before I added my last member.

Speaking of that, when I finally feel like picking it up again and heading to Kanto I think I have a pretty good team considering I don't play competitively. Is this balanced enough to take on Red?

I remember Snorlax being a bitch for my brother to fight and that was just the original Silver. I think everything was at least around 60. I was planning on taking it on solo with my Furret and using type advantages for everything else.

People don't bitch about the shit level curve in Johto -because- of Red, that's just the best example of how shitty it is. Endgame boss at level 75+ where the wild Pokemon cap out at 45 just doesn't make sense no matter how you spin it. No other game pulls this shit either.

I beat Red with a level 50 Gyarados and a Donphan after Pikachu went down I switched in Gyara used six x-special def, 3 x-def, 6 dragon dances and swept. I think my highest team member was 56 when I beat him (I fucking hate grinding). So yeah you can beat him with anything if you buff it enough.

The only thing I don't like about gen 2 is how fucking hard it is to actually find new Pokemon. Some of the distribution is retarded. Who thought it was a good idea to leave stuff like Houndour for post-game in Kanto?

I didn't have the patience to grind up all my pokemon just to fight Red; it was fucking tedius bullshit. So I just got them to mid 60's and used x items+hyper potions to win it.

Are you kidding me, pokemon forces people to need guides more than any other series there is, maybe not for completing story mode, but for figuring out all the weird evolution reqirements, and other fuckery that's been added since then.

Black and White are painfully only as good as the main story and getting used to and getting used to the new Pokemon. Once you finish the story there's honestly nothing worth doing besides Giant Chasm. There should have been contests. Musicals are shit and had absolutely no substance.

Because the player trainer is supposed to be you. They're obviously opposed to the idea of bringing back any of the old trainers because of that, despite the fact that beating "yourself" from the previous game in Gold/Silver is still one of the most memorable parts of any Pokemon game. It's a shame because the memory link gave them an opportunity to do it in an even better way too.

What's the point of the Seven Sages? All you do is hear them wax then get apprehended. I felt ripped off when I found them all and all Looker told me was that N was spotted with a dragon. No rematch or anything. Also, Abyssal Ruins was a painfully wasted opportunity.

I wonder why they feel like having two of "you" or player characters is somehow wrong. After all, they're not even the same person and other characters (like May) act like completely different people when they're not the player.
I'd argue that battling "your old self" is a really nice concept since defeating them basically shows that the you're stronger than you used to be.

I would like the concept of battling my old self a lot more if it was accurate. I'm one of those weird people that roleplays each playthrough of a pokemon game differently.

Got lucky with G/S/C because first time I played Red through I didn't lose a battle and considered myself a power obssessed trainer.
