Why does Hoenn hate the Bug type so much?

I'd rather say GF hated Bug types till gen 4 where this type finally gained some useful moves like Bug bite, Bug Buzz, X-Scissor and U-turn

Gen 5 gave us a Bug/Fire pokemon that actually gets a good amount of usage despite the whole cloaked cobalt thing.
Some bugs get Tinted lens, which alleviates their limited STAB coverage.
ORAS gave Beedrill a new lease in life, though the mega is a one-trick pony.

Blame the turn-based mechanics in this game. If a mega's speed boost was applied on the turn it evolves Beedrill would be able to run sets like Swords Dance or Baton Pass or even Offensive/Bulky Spikes. Its support movepool is pretty good and it even has Roost for recovery. Wasting a moveslot on Protect really kills it's versatility.

Nice quints.
Anyway yeah I guess your right about the idea of using Beedrill for it's bulk is silly due to it's fragility. Although being able to use it's godly speed tier at moment it megas would make a huge difference to it's viability. Perhaps there might be support sets that would make use of it's typing and speed tier rather than always building it for all-out offense or momentum grabbing.
