It was hidden somewhat better in HG/SS but still a thing. BW/BW2 had speedy save times and a progress bar which helped relieve tension. Saving in Gen V becomes a tad slower when you've got a bunch of boxes filled up but never dips down even remotely close to Gen IV.

There is, there's a speedrun on youtube where someone completes Pokemon Yellow in ~30 seconds by corrupting the save file so it loads into the Hall of Fame.

They added a failsafe in Gen 3 onwards so you can't do it anymore.
