It's an experiment to see what happens, because Scald is basically a completely luck based move. That's why you'll sometimes see a Suicune staying in on an Abomasnow, just to burn it with a 30% chance. In UU especially, which is completely full of bulky waters, Scald is crazy overpowered and there is no opportunity cost to using it unless the opponent has a Toxicroak. It's interesting to see what happens here, I doubt anything will become of it but it's still fun to have this.

Why would you use Scald over Surf if it wasn't luck based? A 30% burn chance isn't that high if you think about it, less than a third chance to burn. It's still used for the burn, with a 30% chance. I'd say that's luck based.

Sure, powerful users like Suicune can rip through teams, but expecting weaker water types to run Surf + Toxic to get chip damage - while totally losing their chance to neuter physical attackers is a little unfair.

It's a fucking side effect and is used mostly for its high chance to burn, it's not Tri Attack or Thunderbolt that have lower chance to add a status. Luck based is Swagger, Zap Cannon or Inferno, Dynamic Punch and so on.

Scald, Discharge and Lava Plume are all used for the side effect for the sole reason it is basically a guaranteed offensive status move and not some 10% side effect.

Yeah, 12 Fully evolved pokemon learn it without the dead HM. They all suffer from switching in.

No Pokemon is immune to rocks unlike spikes or can remove it on switch like toxic spikes. Can damage in a single switch more than 3 layers of spikes.
The distribuition of the move is amazing thanks to move tutors. Even fucking chansey learns it.

The only thing out of those that needs to be nerfed is Knock Off, because a Dark type Earthquake that also removes the opponent's item is fucking ridiculous. But even then, they should just limit the damage boost to Dark types who need all the help they can get after Fairies.

And you are literally a scrub if you still complain about Clandestine Cobblestone in the age of Defog. GF just needs to bring it back as a tutor/TM.

This ladder IS like the No Stealth Rock OU ladder. If anything, there may be a suspect test for it depending on how well this ladder is received but judging from the thread on smogon, most of the players who are actually worth a damn in the community are against a scald ban.

So just relax. There's still quite a while before a scald ban comes to reality.
