>>23029930All they did was make Garchomp more slim and add a bunch of unnecessary spikes along with an ugly jaw while turning its hands into axes that make its arms useless for anything besides cutting. They didn't have do anything with the back of the head to make it more sharklike. Compare to if that had sharpened and streamlined the back of Garchomp's head and body to look more capable of moving at high speeds on both land and in water and made its fins more developed claws with a larger one in the center to remain closer to the original design while also visibly expanding on it.
Compare to something as simple as just making Manetric's fur go batshit crazy. What makes this good is that Manetric's fur goes from more static and blocky to more wild and chaotic like lightning. Also looks more like a wolf than a dog like it was before, which is just beautiful. The subjective standard for what makes or breaks a Mega design should be 2 simple things; it expands on a Pokemon's original design and makes it look more powerful while not going too far in its own separate direction.
Cringe inducingly bad examples of this are Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Heracross, in which one is completely lazy and just has the baby jump out of its pouch when Kangaskhan is a stupid unappealing idea I've never remotely liked anyways and the other turning Heracross from a more rounded slim fighter into a ton of bulk that goes too far from the original look while even looking somewhat under designed itself. As someone who always loved Heracross, this is actually fucking personal, but I can still point out what makes it dissatisfying like anyone without bias could.
And yes, I like Mega Charizard X. All it needs is a simple change from black body and blue flames back to regular orange body with gold flames or even into red body with pink flames to look less like trying to look "badass".
