Christ, you guys are idiots. The series is made for fucking kids, of course the games are going to be easy and casualuzed. Casual fans make up at least 80% of Pokemon's fan base, that's who they're selling the games to. They're not targetting the "hard-core" 30 year old NEETs, they're targeting the 10 year olds.

Would Improve Series Tier:

That taxi idea doesn't sound too terrible, sounds kind of neat actually. There could be taxi stops and shit and those cabs in Lumiose could be the HQ of it all, it could be neat if done correctly. It'd be extremely convenient until you get Fly at the very least.
