Okay, real talk.
In the world of Pokémon every animal is replaced by a pokémon, and they all lay eggs for some reason, so there would be no reason to class species with "reptile" or "mammal" they just ARE.
Why would a ghost lay eggs?
Why would a dog?
Why would a PLANT lay eggs?
Because this is a world habited by pokémon, and thats what the species living in this world do.
What I'm trying to get is... What of Humans?
Why are Humans the only thing alive that actually as a regular pregnancy for a mammal?
Shouldn't, by the logic of the Pokémon world, they lay eggs too?

Anyway.
While extremely different from other mammals it's still mammalian by design, instead of laying an egg to be fertilized or already fertilized, the embryo is carried to term inside the female, so my question still stands.
In a world where everything lays eggs, wouldn't humans born in that world also lay eggs?

But that's wrong, animals exist but we never see them since there have been efforts to retcon them out. If they didn't though, why would the pokedex compare pokémon to real animals? (ex, "Pachirisu, the elesquirrel pokémon").

Also, because more inconsistency it's implied pokémon eggs are spawned, possibly by a unspecified legendary. Mew? Arceus? Who knows. It's a lot more credible than saying mammal pokemon are laying eggs though.

Also, what about plants? If there are no "regular" (real-world) animals, then why are there sort of real-world plants (like tall grass and trees)? Why are there fruit-bearing trees that are distinctively only from the world of Pokemon?
Why do they explode, and regular trees don't?

That one's pretty simple. There's no single species known as "dog." Dog is a classification that many species use.
When they call Herdier the "Loyal Dog" pokemon, they're not referring to real life dogs, but the group that they put these similar looking pokemon into, like Growlithe, that they call "dogs."
