The fact that Gen1/2 'mon couldn't be brought over to the new games also scourned many a faggot back then.
Meanwhile others were asspained because there weren't any barely noticeable lighting effects indicating time of day (yet FRLG actually did not have a clock and still got a free pass) and other assbackwards time of day events.
The "low" reviews scores can be blamed on the hivemind effect. When something huge is less popular than it once was, reviewers come out of the woodwork to shit on it.
Least selling main games? Gee, whyever could that be... perhaps because Nintendo kneecapped the GBA by releasing the DS literally two years after RS released and FRLG within that timeframe? Gen 3 had literally no room to breathe.
RS didn't cause pokemons popularity to falter, the blame for something which was already happening just get blamed on them because they were there at the time.
What did Gen 3 do wrong? It was setup to be a cashgrab, no questions asked. Leaving well over 100 past pokemon unavailable in RS, yet the complete and full data for them in the games, was bullshit. They were trying to push Colosseum and the eventual remakes as must-haves. They went beyond simple version exclusives and really tried to fuck people over.
