It definitely takes more than just one massage, and I don't like running around aimlessly. Keeping a pokemon in your partyw orks but it's the fact that you can have raised it a lot of levels by then that's my problem, and sometimes you miss moves. Heart scales aren't that easy to get in older gens before you get the fishing rods and access to luvdiscs.
It probably helps to clarify that I'm mainly talking in-game here.
