On top of that they're functionally obsolete in that generation because no one has the game or items required to send them over.

You'd have to go in blind to have the same discovery feeling however so I hope you didn't read up on it.
As well as that there's a lot more lore added to the game.
Although, if that doesn't tickle your fancy there's not much else to say.
