By 1998 I had nearly two decades of game experience under my belt, from Dragon Warrior, Earthbound, Shining Force 1/2/CD, Lunar 1/2, Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, FF1-7, Suikoden, Ys, BoF 1/2/3, and on and on and on. And those were only jrpgs.
...Now if you were 10 years old at the time and pokeymanz red/blue were your babbys first jrpg, possibly even videogame, then sure. You could've had a "hard" time your first time through. No excuses for any difficulty beyond that however.
