I never complained about older games being tedious. If I complain about a change, it means I feel the change was in the wrong direction.
I don't think it's contradictory for people to want previous gimmicks carried over; my complaint about gimmicks is specifically that they aren't carried over a lot of the time. Dexnav is fun, but it's not likely going to be around in Gen VII, which is what I complain about with it.
I'm not the only person on /vp/, so others might complain about them in a different way. That doesn't mean /vp/ doesn't know what they want, it means /vp/ isn't a hivemind, they have multiple opinions that sometimes contradict.
How do you feel asking for the Frontier is contradictory? If it's the "nothing that they've done before," keep in mind that the Frontier would be a different experience with the Gen VI metagame and that's the reason people aren't just content with replaying Emerald and wish for it to be re-implemented. I mean, the Factory in Gen IV is a different experience than in Gen III due to the Sinnoh Pokémon and phys/spec split, and that's just one generation apart.
