Scizor had Technician and U-Turn as of D/P and nobody gave a shit because it was just another "slow but bulky high defense" 4x weak to fire shitmon in a meta dominated by things like Infernape.

It was bullet punch in Platinum that gave it any usage whatsoever. Before that you had nothing to actually use Technician with except things like Fury Cutter, Quick Attack and non-stab pursuit.

It took Bullet Punch to make it actually worth using.

I don't know when sableye became Smogon tier. It was either when it got a mega or slightly before. I'm not sure but it might have been UU or something, I don't play competitively. I guess it sucks not to be able to use a pokemon you like because it sucks competitively. I still like sableye regardless if it's smogon tier or not. I don't like megas either even if sableye got the best one.

I thought he was a pretty cool guy during the initial Kanto craze but I was a shit trainer as a kid and never put in the effort. In DP Dragonite was an inferior Salamence in almost every respect, especially after Platinum's Outrage tutor. It was better by the end of the gen thanks to Extreme Speed and the Mence ban, but Gen V brought him to the top of the throne with his new ability. Nowadays there are better Dragon Dancers again, but Dragonite manages to stay relevant enough thanks to Multiscale and Extreme Speed. All in all, a solid bro.

Probably gonna get a Mega...probably gonna be broken...

Gyarados is a very unusual case anyway. It used to be a 580BST mixed attacking monster in Gen 1 that was only dogshit competitively because of omnipresent Thunderbolt. Gen 2 saw it heavily nerfed with SpA dropped to 60, and though it finally got usable flying STAB (HP Flying), it was still forced to go mixed due to barren movepool, and was even more so unusable in OU.
Getting Dragon Dance and EQ finally made it usable in Gen 3 (though its movepool was still very barren). Became an OU staple after physical/special split in Gen 4.

(Assuming Mega) Beedrill is seen as ok by Smogon, extremely weak to priority and has hard time with bravest bird so not top contender.
Empoleon varies in usage, currently quite low since some of the stuff it was used to take down got banned to Ubers.
Whimscott is kind of hated by Smogon for staying far too long in OU in gen V when there were better options.

I've also always really loved Mawile's design, but honestly it just so weak that the few times I tried to use it, it just never worked. Only with its Mega has Mawile become a go-to Pokemon. This is currently how I feel about Corsola.
