Worlds 2015 advice thread

Heading to my first Worlds Regionals in about 2 weeks. I'm not expecting to get very far, but I'd really, really like to not lose in the first round.

What are the biggest threats in the ORAS VGC metagame? What counters to those threats should I be expecting?

Let's get some advice happening for would-be contenders, yeah?

Play on battlespot a lot. If you're new to vgc in general, you'll lose a lot at first, but you should soon get a good idea of the biggest threats/strategies. Though keep in mind that relative playstyles between Americans and Japanese tend to differ a bit, as seen by their usage stats. On that note, check the ORAS Doubles battlespot page on 3DS Global Link. You should be able to handle all of the top 12 in usage on that page.

Sylveon (special big hitter)
Whimsicott (prankster, Beat Up combo)
Thundurus-I (prankster)

ayy lmao, Beat Up is cheap and predictable and generally a waste of a Whimsicott, particularly with le screaming fairy cade around

You need to be able to counter Salamence (both mega and not), Mega Mawile, Aegislash, Heatran, Lando-T, Talonflame. You need to be wary of Togekiss, Clefable and Amoonguss for their redirection capabilities. You need to know speed tiers.
