Why can't we ever have a starting town like this in the games? Its always those boring, tiny towns. Pic related could be an interesting change in gen 7.

it was still a tiny town, i'm talking about a huge city that has everything. You start in a city like Saffron or Goldenrod right off the bat.

As cool as that would be I honestly think that wouldn't really fit with the whole theme of adventure in the pokemon games very well.

I mean yeah, I get where it would be more about exploring the country more than the city but it would lose a lot of momentum if it was just "lets leave the city and explore areas and towns that I couldn't care about" I like a small town being the starter town.

Aspertia City was the starting town of B2/W2.
I think it's one of the best starts to a Pokemon game, since Bianca (Juniper's aide in this game) gives you your starter and Cheren is the gym leader of your hometown which you have to challenge first.

Why not? After a while of getting your starter, finding your rival, etc around the big city, I would just want to go out and see the quirks of the smaller towns out there. Various nature settings that hasn't been explored in ages. Plus there's always the comfy feeling when you want to go back home, there's everything there as well.

No, these kinds of places suck and are why Unova is an utter shit region. We should start in a properly natural place like Fortree, Sootopolis, or Floaroma.

The thing is, big-city towns are typically central hubs of the region, meaning you'd go back to them often enough. If that is your starter town, then it detracts from the idea of setting off on a journey and exploring new places, since you keep coming back to the town you grew up in repeatedly.
