Too many Japanese references in the monsters themselves. Pokémon keeps the references diverse and they look much less like demons.

It's not going to take off in the west purely because parents aren't going to let it.

Yokai Watch isn't a social, multi-player heavy series like Pokémon and Monster Hunter are. It largely sticks to traditional jrpg standards of focusing on the single player story mode above all else (YW1 doesn't even have multiplayer iirc). It can become a hit, sure, but in today's social and multiplayer heavy gaming world, getting to the top won't be easy.

OP, think about this.
Pokemon outlasted against the combined forces of Card Captor, YuGiOh, Digimon, Flint the Time Detective, and Monster Rancher.

One game series isn't going to stop it when four couldn't even make it faulter.

Level 5, gonna Level 5. Yokai Watch Busters is an ascended extra mode jumping to full game status (see: RE: Mercenaries). But since this was YW2's multiplayer mode, what does this mean for YW3's multiplayer? Will it even have it? Be extremely cutback / lacklustre to sell the "full version"? Will there be a third YW3 version out this year just mere months after the base two ones? This series is getting driven into the ground faster than Guitar Hero. Considering it's almost been two years and the west hasn't even gotten the first game, I'm having doubts YW3 or beyond will get localized if only because the 3DS's lifespan is nearing its end. Assuming they localize a game a year that would put YW3 in late 2017... yeah... not terribly likely this series is going to have staying power in any region.

Not familiar with Yokai Watch myself, but these really look like they'd fit in as monsters you'd meet in Dragon Quest or something.
That left one looks cool as shit though, I think it'd make a great Pokemon with a couple adjustments to the details.
