Fast battles, best plot in a main series game (PMD Sky has best story in the whole franchise though), friends/rivals that felt way more real than the vapid idiots we got in XY, new and exciting, great soundtrack, gym leaders that actually did stuff, light hearted and nice NPCs, cool locations despite the linear as hell region, cutest protags. (Worst starters though.)

Yes, the difference is called "lazy writing and rehashery." Chosen one might be a tired plot device, but at least B/W made a token effort to not only explain your importance in the plot, but to also have the side characters contribute and feel like people. To note, 5th gen is STILL the only gen to have all its Gym Leaders do things OTHER than Gym Lead. Elesa was a model, Clay was a businessman, etc. 6th gen backtracked that nicely, hence why no one remembers those bland fucks.
