N looks like a fucking Yu-Gi-Oh character. I liked black and white, but seriously, nintendo was trying too hard to make their characters edgy and shit during gen 5.

Thank god gen 6 turned that around.

What made BW gym leaders actually matter is that they had more development in the story, they even participate in the final battle. It's a shame they dropped this for 6th gen and they went back to being boring.

Sinnoh leaders already suffered from this as well.

Not him and I've only played BW2 in non-english (french to be specific), but my understanding is that N completely almost lost his math theme, replacing it with a vague science theme.

The writing in the french translation of BW2 is much better in general.

Unrelated, butI like N a lot and I am not even a massive fan of gen 5. The whole fast-talking and oddball nature of him is great.

I would have actually liked it if N wasn't the antagonist but rather a supporting character who is even more enigmatic. The antagonist would be someone more normal yet visionary with his/her idealistic views for change. Hate what you want a new female main antagonist would be neat.

I feel as if when writing the game they may have started off with two characters but shoved them into one, which doesn't work well at least in my eyes.

Ghetsis was pretty edgy by Pokemon standards.

Even his teams are edgy with shit like Bisharp, Drapion, and Hydreigon. The Hydreigon even knows Frustration in BW2.

They nerfed his Hydreigon hard in BW2. It had perfect coverage with its special attacks in the first game and was incredibly hard to beat without one of those bulky fighting types. In BW2 you could just wall it with any steel type.

Still, no. That is not "edgy". Ghetsis was just literally pure evil and borderline insane. Giovanni once wanted to rule the world through corporate capitalism and military might, may have actually had good intentions based on his dialogue of "You're just a child. You could never understand what I'm trying to accomplish." and even reforms in the end and devotes himself to being a trainer again in his old age.

Ghetsis was mad with power and desired to rule with an iron fist like a king to the point he nearly caused irreparable damage to nature and countless lives with an ice age just to rule Unova and treated people and Pokemon alike as nothing more than tools, Hydreigon's Frustration is a reference to this. Ghetsis is not presented as "badass" in the slightest through all of this, just twisted.
