Reposting muh Grand Unifying Theory of Fossils from another thread.
>Non-Rock type = No fossil capable of being resurrected.
>Rock type = Leaves behind a fossil capable of being resurrected, but the form is still incomplete.
>Only prevo fossils = Fully evolved forms are too complex for resurrection.
>Aerodactyl = Amber fossil type means better preservation? Also technically not an evolved Pokemon, though it should be.
>Mega Evolution = Temporarily unlocks the fossil Pokemon's original form.
>Primal Reversion = Will never be related to Fossils. Fossil Pokemon are not personifications of nature itself; they can't harvest energy from the environment to go Super Saiyan.
Though unrelated to the theory, I'd also like to point out that Genesect is probably roughly equal to its original incarnation. Without Mega Evolution, Team Plasma had to figure out a different way to fix the nerfed fossil form.
