Iv not really battled online for a while but just seen Smogons usage stats for March. Starmie is back in OU and risen to 13th top used pokemon.

What sort of sets are they using for it at the moment?... Also starmie thread I guess :)

This makes Starmie OU for 6 gens in a row now, right?

Also it's mostly whatever it's been using before, though some run Analytic for extra damage against switches/priority. And I think some are using Reflect Type.

Yes, Starmie has been OU in every gen, like Gengar. It only fell out of use because Greninja obsoleted it.

In Smogon tiers, if a pokemon is too good for the tier, the council of that tier will either quickban the pokemon or have a community suspect test

Quickbans are only used where something is incredibly broken in the tier like Mega Kangaskhan / Mega Salamence in OU or Feraligatr in NU

Suspect tests are where the community much reach a certain COIL, it's mostly 2700 for OU, and when they reach 2700 COIL, they are allowed to vote on whether the pokemon up for suspect should be banned or not

If a pokemon is too good for OU it will get banned to Ubers, if it's too good for UU it will get banned to BL, RU -> BL2 etc

My Starmie from Omega Ruby:
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpAtk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Psychic
- Surf

Pretty good coverage (as can be seen on the picture) and can deal decent damage if opponent decides to switch out in 3v3 battle.

But I think you would prefer bulkier version with Rapid Spin for Smogon 6v6.

Starmie doesn't even need coverage that much. Water+Psychic STAB is very hard to resist, the only mons in A-ranks capable of it are Lati@s, Celebi, Ferrothorn, M-Gyarados, Slowbro and opposing Starmie. Unless you're concerned about your teammates being incapable of dealing with them properly, you could just pass the coverage in favor of extra utility options, like Recover + Rapid Spin.

The whole Smogon tiers, are they only used for Smogon's Showdown, or do people also adopt this into their official online battles(Battle Spot etc)?
Because I've seen many post here where people are complaining for suspect tests, bans etc and I was always wondering about this.

It's mainly used on Showdown only, but there are people who do use Smogon rules on cart battles it's mainly Youtubers like Shofu or whatever though

Smogon rules aren't official in anyway though
