>>23194192Competitive events use the Expert (the rules are different and it's way more stressful) mode, they last a week, and it's all about racking up as big a score as possible within the time limit (when other stages are about reaching a certain score within the time/move limit and ends immediately when you do). If you get a winning placement, you'll earn a mega that'll help you win against Fire-types, something this game totally lacks right now and will be a ridiculous advantage when the competitions for Mega-zard and Mega-blaziken come along. In other words, winning now pretty much ensures future wins.
It's pretty crazy. As for the skill-vs-money thing, you can "pay" for two powerups:
1) You can delay enemy disruptions, which is pretty pointless in this game mode.
and
2) You can remove interference pokemon from play, meaning only the mons you choose will be in play. Typically, Squirtles litter the game board, making it harder to combo your good mons, and matching them up to get them out of the way gets you shit for points and wastes your time. The difference between using it and not can easily boost your score by 50%. The advantage is huge.
Thing is, even without buying that effect, you can break a score of 20k if you know how to play right, and that's more than good enough to be assured a winning spot. I know I just said something a few paragraphs ago about competitive advantages in future events, and a whole thing about not needing one to win here. Thing is, the competition in the future is only gonna be tougher, and they may have an advantage that you just won't have.
