Are the eggs connected or do they travel around as a group via free will?

What happens if you kill one of the eggs or take it away? Can the Exeggcute still function? What happens to a group of Exeggcute if there's a missing egg? Do they keep going or do they cease to function?

Could you raise just one Exeggcute egg or does it need a whole group to do anything?
