Marowak is a wrecking ball in doubles and singles, there are differences to the ways that I build either.

For singles build him with HP and attack, give it an adamant or impish nature. For its ability use battle armor. Now for moves the set you want to use is
-Bonemerang
- Stone edge
-Iron Head/Iron Tail/Knock Off
-Protect

Doubles is slightly different, build it the same way in stats but now give it lightningrod as its ability. The moves this time are
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Protect/Substitute
-Iron Head/Iron Tail

For either build equip a Thick Club and then your good to go.

Unless you're playing in lower tiers Marowak is going to need a lot to get going. Your only item choice is Thick Club, so use that. You're not surviving a super effective special hit, and thanks to your slow-ass speed there is no way you will outspeed any special attacker. Your best bet is to have a trick room setup mon elsewhere.

Take advantage of Rock Head and stick Double Egde there to hit whatever resists ground. Bonemerang is the main gimmick in using Marowak, so you may as well take advantage of that. So when something inevitably 2HKOs Marowak and you want to do something lasting damage, put on Knock Off. Your last slot is either Stone Edge, or just substitute if you think you'll get a free turn.

It's a shitmon, so be prepared.

This is such a bad attitude to go into the game with. You'd be surprised what you can do with Pokemon that your opponent isn't used to facing and isn't prepared for. That said, since you brought up tiers, Marowak is better in VGC doubles than it is 6v6 Singles.

That's one advantage of shitmons, yes, but shitmons are shitmons. Most people won't be fooled twice, or you better have a very good plan with your team that makes it fit in perfectly.

With trick room up it's a beast, thick club and bonemerang are its main selling points, the other moves are up ypur needs. I like it in doubles.
