That'll go super well, even with Life Orb Heatran only 2HKOs (only guaranteed with SR) and then it gets wrecked by EQ because no air balloon.

Good option against the SD set but if you switch in on anything other than SD you pretty much lose the match right there. Mamoswine is one of the few mons people propose to counter M-Ray that doesn't suck against nearly anything else but it also only works against one of it's sets and requires you to predict well against the one set that it does beat. It's aight.

Dragon Ascent 2stronk. You maybe pull it off some of the time but only if you switch into EQ, M-Ray hasn't boosted with SD, and you luck out on your 12% chance. It also really sucks against pretty much anything else so it hardly justifies a teamslot.

It isn't that it has no counters, it's that every team has no reason not to run it and is also forced to run something specifically to counter it (and probably two things, given how niche the counters are and how much you still have to rely on a good revenge kill). So that's a third to half your team basically decided for you already. Not a healthy metagame.

I'd argue that point. I'd say there' pretty much no real *hard* counters for it, just above average checks for one specific set. You pretty much must revenge kill it which if you think about it is pretty nuts because the implication is that M-Ray will always KO at least one mon and put a good dent in whatever revenge kills it a lot of the time.
