Good lord this battle was so biased towards Ash's it's hilarious. First of all Bunnelby was kicking Pikachu's *** who pretty much beat Bunnelby with two moves with pretty much no strategy. Then we have Hawlucha's sudden hax speed boost which Ash pulled out of no where as Hawlucha was never that fast. Then we have that pathetic final strike from Goodra with Bind. In what world would one swift build up that much Bide energy??

just look at the struggle between Heliolisk and Hawlucha, then Pikachu and Bunnelby. The backward kick, and the iron tail to the face. Excellent moves, creative delivery, and physical attacks none the less.
Goodra uses bide and wins. Luxray totally stole the spotlight by doing all that it could against it.
It was a good match but Korrina is still the best gym match. props to Clemont for standing strong against that piece of shit though and crippling it with an amazing strategy.

The problem people have with Bide is that it's boring to watch because we've never seen it backfire. Not once in the entire show, this isn't just XY. If at some point in the past Ash had ordered Bide and it failed to charge completely then it would establish a track record of "oh damn we dont know if it'll work this time", but we know it will work because it always has.

Rewatched it and I still think this was all kinds of awesome. Heliolisk might have not KO'd anyone, but he brought Hawlucha to his knees (though I should rather say Hawlucha brought his knee to Heliolisk) and he was the only Pokémon so far to be able to make Goodra lose his footing and fall down. Pikachu vs Bunnelby was a great showing from both, Hawlucha redeemed himself and was fucking awesome and Luxray was the MVP. Goodra was hax as always but his atomic bomb Bide was pretty hype.

I honestly think I'd rank Brock's brother as a better gym leader, nearly taking out a Latias with a well-trained Ryherior and actually caring about your job a lot is far more pleasing than beating Heliolisk(a fairly weak Pokemon from what we've seen) with a Bunnelby(undertrained and meh).
- This gym wasn't good or bad, it was simply meh. It beats the trash battle that was Korrina/Ash in presentation but it's definitely not better than Viola or Ramos's gym battles.
Can't wait for Luxray and Bunnelby to go rotting in their balls for the rest of XY, with this episode Clemont's entire relevance as a character pretty much ends. I'm hoping for redemption in the future since there's no reason for him to be Ash's satellite character anymore but that might be wishful thinking.

Something else that is a bit problematic about this gym also is the presentation, zero struggle from Ash's side or issues that impacted him and made him think. In AG he really had his work cut out for him with Norman even if he was mainly powering forward, in DP when counter shield went to crap he needed an out with Chimchar and Buizel, in BW despite the divisiveness of the Elesa battle he had to think on his feet and listen to Pikachu, things didn't go well but he still pulled out a good strategy to beat Tynamo. With how much hype and buildup there was into this gym it just was Ash steamrolling Clemont like nothing and each match ending with a whimper, almost zero strategy. Ash was not challenged at all and Clemont was eaten alive despite all his supposed training to prepare for the match his strategies meant nothing because Ash just hammered through them like a truck.

Why does Bide never show any adverse effects like failing? If Clemont is smart he would have had an answer for that like holding off until it was down and overpowering it or setting up Electric Terrain again, Clemont and Tierno got straight up stomped. Oh god the animation. Mega Lucario's match was already top notch, but the Brobowl just blew everything away. It has the best jojo poses, dynamic trainer animation, great camera movements, intense line art (mostly Luxray) and also great plays on the lighting while Electric terrain was active. The final beam of destruction was the icing on the cake, it indeed blew everything away.
