It's hard to every time psychologically evaluate people based on the words they spew but if they fall into pre established stereotypes it makes sense to call them what they are.
The real problem is not calling people these shorthand names. The problem is how people are so unaware of how easily they fall into a stereotype at least in the views of others. Seeing how other people reach conclusions about you is a trait available in most normally functioning people.
I'm not saying these stereotypes are right. Of course they are wrong but fighting them or disagreeing just says more about you than anything else.
If you call someone a fag who inst a fag they are not offended and either take it as a joke or ignore it. When you call someone a fag and they get angry and overcompensate they are clearly at least insecure about their heterosexuality.
You clearly have some issues you need to resolve if you ever expect to have positive interactions with other people in the future.
