Dark was also meant to be to psychic what fairy is to dragon. At least the pseudo of Gen II got dark typing

Jirachi needs a major buff to be contender in this generation imo. Making it Fairy/Steel and giving it Moonblast as a normal move and Play Rough should do the trick.

Xerneas isn't a reindeer though. It's based on the 4 stags that reside on the middle of the Yggdrasil tree. The legend never mentioned any reindeer.

I was always hoping that the Z legendary (before it was announced) would be poison. I mean it fits, Z looks like a snake, which Zygarde does indeed look like, and now that it is based on DNA which is an acid, it should make sense that it's related to poison in some way. Instead, it's dragon and fucking ground. It was one of the biggest let downs. Obviously i'm hoping for a new form or something that turns it into poison/fairy or some kind of binary opposite being.

It doesn't work that way. DNA itself isn't acidic; the reason it has "acid" in its name is because of the phosphate groups used to link nucleotides together.

I agree that Zygarde's typing is lame, though. We already have a perfectly fine dragon/ground pokemon in Garchomp.

That is true. The thing is what makes Futakuchi-onna different from other youkai is that they are a type of youkai where humans that are afflicted with supernatural diseases become youkai(there are others like rokurokubi, kuchisake-onna, yama-uba(also called "the fairy of the mountains") etc.). Aren't fairies supposed to be supernatural beings who are mostly humanoid in appearance? Mawile's origin fits the bill better than all the other "youkai-inspired" pokemon. That's why it gets Fairy type.

I'm more concerned with why Mawile is Steel. The Fairy typing makes sense given the yokai inspirations (although why don't other Yokai get it? Golduck and Ludicolo are kappa, Sawk, Throh and Electabuzz are oni, Shiftry is a tengu)

Wigglytuff is a moon rabbit (which is where Jigglypuff gets its Japanese name: Purin means "pudding"), and moon rabbits make rice cakes. The moon association is where it gets its typing.

Whimsicott is a classic trickster archetype.

Mr. Mime and Azumarril (and Dedenne) I have no fucking idea.

The Lake Trio I agree should be Fairies, but the others are all just generically cute.
