Perhaps they should expand on the Mega Evolution idea to include form and type changes. That way you could change Giratina's form in battle as if he Mega Evolved.

Because Giratina changing form based on the different gravity of the dimensions is a unique and interesting ability. Unlike Mega Evoltion which doesn't really make that much sense and is only liked because it is new.
Basically unique forme changes that make sense and expands a pokémon's lore is much better than just random Mega Evolutions.

I agree with you on making it like a mega evolution wouldn't make sense, but why do mega evolutions not make sense?
We're already dealing with a universe where animals with elemental powers undergo spontaneous metamorphosis upon obtaining combat experience.

Giratina reacts to the Griseous Orb the same way Groudon and Kyogre react to theirs. They all change form.

The only difference right now is that Giratina changes out of battle and Groudon/Kyogre don't.

I don't mind Happiness as it just means that the pokémon needs to be happy Sylveon's Affection is a different story, but I'm not really a huge fan of trade evolutions, no.

Nice projecting there mate. He just asked if I disliked trade evolutions and I responded. I dislike the non-existent flavor behind trade evolutions and you're correct that I dislike the mechanic as well. But I do have friends to trade with, doesn't stop it from being a tiresome evolution mechanic.

Trade evolution needs to die and Gen V had better be the end of it after Gen VI had absolutely none of it.

I always headcanoned those evolutions being about pheromones. A pokemon spends time absorbing the pheromones of one human and happiness / affection evos occur and mega evos become possible. A trade evolution happens when a pokemon suddenly comes into contact with another human's pheromones.

It makes as much sense as anything else in pokemon.
