There's only 2 badges left, the league and maybe team flare stuff. It looks like this could be done in a year and a half so Ash's journey to the next region could start by the end of 2016.
That's just the anime. 2016 is also Pokemon 20th annivesary and we received gen 4 for the 10th one (Pokemon D/P) so the situation might be the same. XY sequel/remake this year, gen VII next year?
