They seem to think it has a chance only because it's outdone pokemon in Japan, where pokemon is bigger than anywhere else in the world. First thing of all, pokemon hasn't really been that big of a trend since 2000 at best, and in most places, it's about as big as any kid's franchise can be. It hasn't lost the hype in Japan because apparently, nothing ever loses hype in Japan. It's all marketed straight to the 9th circle of Hell there. That isn't to say something can't be more popular than it is. I know in terms of anime, for a long time, pokemon has never been the absolute top, but somewhere in the top ten at least. (my information goes back at least as far as the latter parts of the third gen) I think it may even be safe to say that pokemon has never been the biggest thing period in Japan, as it has a lot more things that are everywhere there. So much that I scoff at the idea that pokemon is in the top ten children's franchises in terms of everything else. It's just another batch of plushies for them. On top of the zillions of other batches of plushies.
