Pikachu gets it because it's Pokemon's mascot, and thus gets special treatment.

It will only ever be given to Pikachu.

Can't we fix it by giving Pikachu back his old cry?

Or really all of the them, for that matter. Updated cries were done so much better in the Stadium games for the Gen 1 and 2 mons.

Apparently no one on /vp/ has seen the Japanese anime.

Pokemon don't all say their names in the Japanese version, they just make animal noises. Them saying their names is just something the English dub added.

I don't think it's very plausible since some Pokemon have several different voices, and others speak human languages. I'd love hearing Onix's and Charizard's anime cries in the games though.

that just proves that you haven't watched the Japanese anime either. Onix literally says Iwark. Charmader literally says Hitokage. Squirtle says Zenigame and Bulbasaur says Fushigidane. Obviously Pikachu says Pikachu.
