I don't frequent this place often but I wanted to know the opinions of the community. Now that the dust has settled over a year and a half later, what are your opinions on the introduction of Fairy types? Also is it possible that more types get introduced in the future?

I fucking hate Fairy. Psychic was already a pretty poor typing before, but now with Fairy there's no reason to use Psychic at all unless it's Mewtwo.

I like them. I think the Fairy type suits a lot of the pink Pokemon.

Psychic was always kind of underwhelming as a type it just went on good pokemon. Though in Gen 1 hitting poison super effectively was a bigger deal. Steel did more to hurt psychic than Dark or Fairy ever did.

They could always make Fairy weak to psychic or something.

Better than ever, he's on the upper half of the list in OU currently. His type change was really the push he needed to get put on the map. Already had great abilities and movepool.

I still don't know what qualifies as a Fairy in GF's mind.
I still don't see the reasoning behind half of the weaknesses and resistances, besides being purely anti-meta.
Despite being meant to stabilize the meta it just changed it up a bit, with itself now being the most broken typing.

I still don't like it and it didn't bring anything interesting to the meta except buffing Poison.

Well given that poison has always kinda been shitty, I think making it the counter to an otherwise OP class was a nice attempt at balance.

Buffing Poison offensively was a must either way. It was so absurdly bad that pretty much no dual poison type ever ran any Poison move. Same with Steel (Scizor notwithstanding).

Besides poison it mostly made sense to me.

Steel represents cold iron, fairies hate it.

Fighting because Fighting is Ayy Lmao against things supernatural or traditionally above man ( Psychic, Ghost, Flying)

Dark because Fairy is the exact opposite and fluffy diabetes has to prevail over edginess.

Dragon because it has its roots in myth as well, and really it could have gone either way on who is super effective against who. Obviously they did go meta and decided to give fairies the upper hand.

Fairy is either super cutesy shit for girls or has some basis in myth. Just like Dragon can either have some basis in myth or is just based on some donut steel 2cool super animal that Gamefreak came up with.

Steel was great through. Being the ultimate defensive typing. It was never meant to be offensive. It's one of the typings that worked exactly like GF intended.

Making it on of the two types that's SE against Fairy makes it not only the best defensive typing(maybe tied with Fairy) but also a great offensive typing. It's borderline broken now, no matter if it lost two of its resistances.

It's ok that it tried to nerf Dragon and boost Poison, but it didn't have to fuck over Bug and Psychic even more. (and to an lesser extent Fighting)

Steel being super effective makes the most sense flavorwise. It would have been dumb not to buff steel there especially since it got nerfed defensively.

I kind of see the reasoning for the Steel(fairies typically being weak to iron and such), Fire(Visually, a lot of fairies have either some bug or grass elements) and Fighting(the whole supernatural thing) match ups, but Dark, Bug, Poison and Dragon match ups really doesn't make sense for me and could just as well have worked the complete opposite way.

Yeah, I guess it is actually the thing that makes the most sense flavor wise.

I'm still pretty sure a big reason for defensive nerf was purely to make Aegislash slightly less broken.

For Dark in particular you could say the same for its match up against Psychic. There was some other motifs hidden within both types including night or literal darkness for Dark, day or the cosmos for psychic. Or even healing.

The way I see it they had Dark beat Psychic in a pseudo Light/Dark dynamic and Fairy vs. Dark is another pseudo Light/Dark thing with light winning this time.

Dragon is a similar case because they saw no reason to buff Dragon to begin with. It makes sense for one to effect the other in some way at least they just went with one they thought was most beneficial to balance.

Bug should have been buffed, not nerfed. I agree. I don't know what they were thinking there.

Poison I'm okay with because poison doesn't even have a legendary yet. Talk about a neglected type.
