If you compare late XY to now you see that the dominant megas of that time were balanced(Pinsir, Mgarde, Mhera)
Now we have a tier of a massive power struggle, Megagross and Altaria are so much better than any other Pokemon. If you were to ban those, Sableye Diancie and Lopunny would take their place. (Sableye gets worse all the time though)
If you played the OU mini tour on smogon they banned all the threats I mentioned and all the games were actually enjoyable, it was fun, way less matchup based as well. New megas that sit in low rankings would become more dominant however not overpowering (Mgallade, MBeedrill, MSceptile) the reason being that they fall on more of a level as the other OU pokemon.
Basically:
late XY = good (lots of players agree)
ORAS = shit (lots of players agree)
ORAS - threats above = late XY + non OP megas
Therefore ORAS becomes good
