Have you ever bought gaming magazines? They work under the assumption that nobody has the internet. June issues tend to have "Exclusive E3 scoops" which just includes things revealed at E3 several weeks ago.

As far as release dates go, only 3 main series games have been released outside of August-December (Japan release dates). The exceptions being Red/Blue and FRLG in Jan/Feb and B2W2 in June. So as far as patterns go, it could be announced at E3 in June or just out of the blue as with ORAS was.

The way I see it, we'll get an announcement sometime between July and September, and the game will be out between March and June next year.

Over the summer CoroCoro hype is always great.

Spring/Summer releases have only happened three times, though. RB and FRLG were released in February of their respective years (in Japan), and B2W2 were released in June so they could hurry over to Gen VI. Releasing them in October/November is a smarter marketing move anyway, because then the little kids (their target demographic) would ask their parents to get them the games for Christmas.

That said, a march release isn't unheard of either, and if the game gets announced by June, they'll have a good 9-ish months of CoroCoro and hype to pad it out.

Really, I don't see how they're going to have 2 years between ORAS and X2/Y2, unless by some craziness they're skipping right to gen 7. The 1-game-per-year thing is par for the course now, and even if we don't get one this year, October/November of 2016 would be way too far for the current business model.

Not necessarily. There were only six issues of CoroCoro between ORAS' announcement last year and it's release, and they spoiled literally every major detail about them in that time period (granted, there wasn't much to hide except new Characters and Mega Evolutions, but whatever).

Honestly, I don't see how Z/X2Y2 couldn't happen this year. Would it really justify the 20th Anniversary to save it for next year?

Well, yeah - the 20th anniversary is a big deal. The 25th will be bigger, but still.

Also, it's already almost May, and unless the game came out in November, I don't think they'd get the appropriate hype. XY was announced in January, and still barely made it that year, as it came out in October.

They revealed it before announcing that mega pokemon even existed, much like Sylveon being revealed before fairy type was announced.

There's no precedent for this kind of thing.

They also showed off Tornadus-T in a trailer for that Dream World 3DS app before B2/W2 were released.

XY had that two month info drought, though. Sylveon was revealed for the short in February, but there wasn't anything else until April when the revealed "Mewtwo's new forme". Both were teased for XY but no major info was shown about them until later.

Besides, new Generations and remakes get more hype than third versions/sequels anyway.

Bulbagarden does have a Facebook page, a Twitter account, another Twitter account dedicated to breaking news, and even a Tumblr page, all of which you should totally be following, and at least has the advantage of having multiple moderators for all of its social media sites across many time zones, but no one ever seems to believe anything until Serebii posts about it, and that just makes me sad.

Anon, that's around the amount of time generally used for whole new generations. Anything else gets much less fanfare.

ORAS: May - November
BW2: February - June
HGSS: May - September
Plat: May - September

Everything but ORAS only had 4 months.
