I teach HMs to my in-game team. I delete them if I don't need them anymore.

This. I never got why people bitch about HMs so much, it's part of the game and you should adapt to it. Probably the same people who bitch that the game is too easy, too.

I used to use HM slaves. Then I realized that most ingame mons only use 2-3 moves at most and don't give a fuck. Only time I'll bother is early game shit since I might not even have a full team by then.

Really, you can't understand? It's because they take up a moveslot that you'll almost never use in battle, which further causes you to forget moves you would like to use, or forego learning a useful move which you'll have to uselessly spend a heart scale on relearning later. It's inconvenient, time consuming and the hm itself is seldom used (except fly and surf)

That only happened to me when I used to use teams of like 3-4 (Starter + Pseudo + Legendaries) when I was way younger. Ever since my first Diamond playthrough, I've used teams of six and just taught them the HMs as I need them Or a just have dedicated HM Slave and just keep them in the box the whole time except when I need them.

I happen to usually train 5 Pokemin regardless because I don't use the Exp Share in every gen but I also want to have a decently levelled team. My 6th member is something I'll be train post game anyway so I let it fight in the league. Honestly when I need an HM Slave I just temporary put one in my team for he required routes and deposit it again in the box as soon as possible. Luckily the Water type HM are pretty good and so is a STAB Fly from Gen4 onward, Rock Smash and its drops can also save you in the first league challenge.
Anyway from Gen5 onward there is no reason to complain about HM with the move deleter and re-usable TMs.

I don't have this problem. I just use HM slaves up until I have full team, throw Surf/Waterfall to whatever water-type I have, and if I do need some other HM, I just teach it over a TM move and afterwards visit move deleter.

It's not that hard.

I trained 6 pokemons for the E-4, and I used to box one of them (rotating) to have an HM Slave. That way I got my team with with no HM (except Surf), and boxed the HM Slave in the end.

Done a couple of times now, and I'll definitely continue doing so.

I guess my pelliper on my Omega Ruby team could be considered an hm slave since its main purpose was fly and surf and I did not use it in any of the e4 battles, bit it was kept up to the level of the team, and I did use it early game

You rarely ever use your in-game team for competitive battling though since you'll breed them from scratch. So it doesn't really matter if your Pokemon have a pretty shitty moveset considering one STAB move and one coverage move will let you clear the entire game with ease.

You only need fly, surf, and maybe dive and/or waterfall.
Fly isn't even needed in ORAS and you can just box your fly slave most of the time. The water HMs are actually pretty good moves(other than dive) and so it's fine teaching them to your water type.

I keep one or two slots open during my journey. If I need to use an HM, I'll catch a useless Pokemon, teach it the HM, and release it when I get to the next Pokemon Center.

Strength is good enough for in-game as well. Hopefully they'll keep the HM list more or less the same as XY for the future, they seriously need to adjust Cut so it isn't complete shit though.

That or just remove HMs and make them innate skills for certain Pokemon.
