Probably Persian. Meowth overshadows it in the anime, and Tauros overshadows it competitively. It's a simple, "luxury" pokemon and has a lot of charm, even more than Liepard, my favorite FE cat pokemon. Also, it's a crit machine and a money-making machine, what's not to like?

It was really good though, I liked the idea of having your starter following you and knowing his mood, the gym leaders were pretty okay, Elite 4 of gen. 1 is still the best for me. It is still one of my all-time favorite game (inb4: nostalgiafag).
Biggest default:
You can't run so until the moment you get your bike it feels incredibly slow.

Dewgong is one of the most underrated for sure even though it's a shitmon even back in Gen 1. Poor bro's just always been outclassed by Lapras even though he tries hard.

Gengar I'd say, his typing was terrible in relation to his stats (ghost and poison were physical at the time) so he didn't have a good STAB move to work off of
also alakazam just slightly has better offensive stats then him, so he is used much more

I used to believe that it was a different game depending on what Pokémon you pressed start on in the beginning.

I got this from pressing a on Aerodactyl on my cousins cart and continuing his game when he was in one of the caves. I was convinced that I played a different Pokémon game in ancient times.

Starmie has less of a case of 4MSS because of how limited the movepools are in Gen 1, but a decent one is:

- Thunderbolt
- Blizzard
- Recover
- Psychic / Surf / T-Wave , whichever is really needed
