For one, there was somewhat of an roleplaying infestation. Sometimes it seemed like half the threads were really stupid RPs, like that Team Rocket one now, but all the time and everywhere. Also there was a really creepy recurring thread devoted to the Subway Bosses. I never ventured in there but I think it might have been a RP also, or maybe just a constant semi-porn image dump.

There were also relatively frequent threads where people streamed anime episodes and movies. I actually miss those.

Magnemite trading wasn't a thing until after BW2 came out. By the way, BW2 era /vp/ is best /vp/. No conedicks in sight and it was the last time we actually enjoyed a mainline game.

The way that Join avenue worked was that if you traded with people you could get more visitors. So people started catching magnemites because they were an early route mon that had an ability to find more magnemites and started trading them with each other for the sole purpose of getting visitors,

In all honesty, /vp/ wasn't too bad when B/W came about.
The porn was gone, people didn't overhype things and shitposting was relatively low.

It wasn't until the end of Generation five that things got crazy and /vp/ turned into what it is now.
It all started when a few people thought that Hoenn was being remade and just like Flygon people turned it into a "meme" with HOENN CONFIRMED then things like the Magnemite trades and gen /vp/ attracted outsiders and they thought it was the norm here and things just stuck soon enough.
