But as plainly seen in the anime (Origins and Ashnime) the flame cannot be doused with water. Fire needs oxygen to burn, and normally you could extinguish that source of oxygen by immersing the flame in water.
But what if the oxygen source is the Charizard's lungs? Which is why the fire dies when it dies. Because it loses that source of oxygen.
