>>23330154>Gen 1Bulbasaur is easy mode. You're good against first two gyms, decent against third and fourth. Not quite as strong toward the end, though.
Squirtle is good against Brock, but ass up until late game. Becomes strongest in the end, though, since it has access to Blizzard and Hydro Pump/Surf.
Charmander sucks early on, is godly mid game where it rapes Erika, Koga and most of team rocket, merely okay late game, though. Misty is a bitch of a fight with this one, though. You'll need Bellsprout or Oddish or a fuckton of grinding.
>Gen 2Chikorita is ass, even ingame. Sucks hard against all the early gyms, doesn't get a strong final form like Squirtle. Only really good for Body Slamming the legendary dogs to paralyze them.
Cyndiquil is all right, nothing special, but nothing crappy either. Normal mode. Watch out for first gym spamming Mud Slap on it, though.
Totodile is eaay mode. Strongest final form of the 3, learns all three of the water HMs. Whirlpool can trap legendary dogs, so it's still useful late game, and does all right against Will in Elite 4because it learns Crunch.
>Gen 3Mudkip is far and away the best ingame. Earthquake is a great coverage move, and coverage moves are everything ingame. Access to those dumb water HM's is a plus too. Great against that asshole Watson snce it'll be a ground type by then, murders Team Magma if you're playing ruby.
Treeko is better in the Sapphire version, obviously. It's okay, good speed is nice ingame, but it lacks coverage moves. Bring extra healing items since it's kinda fragile too, especially early in the game.
Torchic is sorta crappy since there is an assload of water types in gen 3, a water team in sapphire, a really cheap water gym, a psychic gym full of rock types... Gen 3 wasn't nice to fire types. Torchic underperforms against team magma too. Torchic is hard mode.
