as bait-y this post seems, I want to know the reason what are anti-smogonfags' legit reasons for hating smogon. Don't get me wrong, my stance is neutral towards Smogon

Because, as a general rule, it promotes using only the top ten or so Pokémon in each tier with similar strategies, making the game feel a bit stale.

Deep down, they hate competitive pokemon in general, not Smogon only. They expect that any pokemon or strategy is equally functional, and that they can actually be decent players just by using "their bros", instead of using sets and strategies created by better players and tested thousands of times.
However, the truth is that in any competitive game, as long as there's imbalance (and in Pokemon there's plenty), only a small subset of options will be actually used when only winning matters. Smogon only tries to provide a balanced environment for every pokemon while reducing the luck factor in battles to an acceptable degree. You may disagree with their results, but most anti-smogonfags would eventually have the same complaints about "muh variety" or "muh bans" in VGC or any other metagame.

It's because their understanding of Smogon comes only from hearsay. They only see lies and propaganda being spouted here so they assume the worst.

I used to be one of those anti-smogonfags. I decided to actually check out Smogon after years of blind shittalking, and I discovered that it's a great site to learn viable strategies so you can use your bros to their fullest potential. Tiers are only there so the player will know what to expect in random battles. And yeah, some pokemon are simply better than others. But that's not Smogon's fault.

Smogon rules & regulations don't affect the game or competitions. You're not even forced to follow them in Showdown. There isn't ANY purpose to complain about Smogon unless you're trying to show off your ignorance.
